Strong foundations in the first years of school.
Ofsted’s latest report has revealed that whilst there have been improvements in education in early years and key stage 1, not enough children are acquiring the foundational knowledge and skills they need to succeed.
During this event, we will explore Ofsted’s report, Strong foundations in the first years of school, and share ways that schools can ensure their curriculum and practices are effective in ensure every child’s success.
This will include:
- aspects of the reception and key stage 1 curriculum that make the biggest difference to children learning
- considering the main barriers preventing children from learning important foundational knowledge
- taking account of children’s starting points and building on prior learning
- valuing both play-based learning and direct instruction and considering which is better suited to particular forms of knowledge
- using day-to-day assessment to understand what children really know and can do
This event is suitable for all staff working in the early years and key stage 1 classes, and for subject and senior leaders.
